HYDERABAD: Did you know who buys the largest quantity of potatoes and buns to make those burgers? Who serves `eats' to the largest number of customers every month? Did you know who can claim to have introduced people here to `lettuce'? The answer to all the above questions is McDonald's. It buys a whopping 6.5 crore buns a year and serves about six lakh customers every month at 90 franchisee and own outlets across India. All those who tasted McDonald's eats in cities like Ahmedabad or Bangalore and regretted not having the option in our very own `Cyberabad', here's good news. Golden Arches, the first company-owned outlet in South India will open shop at Prasad's Multiplex complex on Friday.
Expansion plan
At the media launch, Amit Jatia, MD and JV Partner, McDonald's India (West & South) said it was looking to increase the existing 90 outlets to 110 by the end of the fiscal while also chalking out plans to invest Rs. 300 crores in opening 100 more over a three year span. The menu by and large is the same, except that beef and pork are a `No' in India. The company claims that every `eat' is specially crafted to suit Indian conditions.
Separate kitchens
While the connoisseurs of non-vegetarian would not find it a problem at all, veggies can breathe easy. McDonald's uses separate utensils, separate oils and even separate cooks for non-vegetarian and vegetarian stuff. In effect, there are two kitchens. Go ahead. Check it out, folks for some lip-smacking delights!
