THE SECOND batch of the comprehensive Postgraduate Diploma in Infrastructure Management (PGDIM), offered by the Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), is scheduled to begin at the School of Management for Infrastructure and Development Strategies (MINDS) India, here. The PGDIM is a one-year full-time programme for graduates in all disciplines of engineering, including agricultural engineering and architecture, and postgraduates in other disciplines. The curriculum focuses on Planning Tools; Project Management; Contract Management; Infrastructure Finance; Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Applications; Geographical Information Systems; Strategic Environmental Assessment; Legal and Regulatory Environment; and Emerging Paradigms.
DSI signs MoU
The city-based Dayananda Sagar Institutions (DSI) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Uganda as an academic and technical partner, which will enable universities in Uganda to seek the expertise of DSI. The partnership, according to DSI authorities, allows for upgradation of existing programmes and addition of new programmes from time to time in the Ugandan universities. "DSI will make available its faculty and infrastructure to staff and students to work on joint programmes in Bangalore and Uganda," they said. Besides, the partnership will allow for exchange of faculty and students between universities in Uganda and DSI. DSI will receive students from Ugandan universities on credit transfer in its colleges under the academic partnership. The technical and academic collaboration will be in Information Technology, Engineering, Management, Languages, Health Sciences and Healthcare. As part of the agreement, the Sagar Group will help plan and build a paediatric healthcare centre in Uganda along with engaging in developing national centres of education in that country, according to DSI chairman D. Hemachandra Sagar. The MoU was signed by Fred Beyendoca, High Commissioner and Nimisha Madhvani, Deputy High Commissioner to the Government of Uganda in India, and Dr. Sagar.
Autonomy means progress
Autonomy does not mean being free and out of the clutches of the Government and Bangalore University, but it means progress, said D.H. Shankaramurthy, Minister for Higher Education, here. Inaugurating the autonomous status, examination centre and first year degree classes of the NMKRV College, Mr. Murthy said apart from engineering and medicine there were many courses which the students could opt for and achieve their fullest. M.K. Panduranga Shetty, Rashtriya Shikshana Samithi Trust president, disclosed the college's plan to start a community radio station and introduce a course on radio. "It is C.N. Mangala's efforts that has helped the college reach its present state," said college principal V.T. Vijayalakshmi.
Industry meet
ICFAI Business School, Bangalore, will be organising an "Industry meet" on July 7 at 6.30 p.m. at Hotel Atria, Palace Road, Bangalore-560 001.
