KOCHI: The Standing Council of Trade Unions, Eloor, on Wednesday staged dharna at the ESI Hospital, Pathalam, demanding better facilities. Better treatment, specialist facility and maintenance of ESI hospitals are some of the other demands. According to a statement issued by the Council, the pathetic condition of the ESI hospitals turn away the patients from there. There are thousands of workers who depend on the services provided by these hospitals, but they are being neglected by the Government. There are vacancies of about 176 doctors in the ESI sector. The ESI hospital at Pathalam is in a pathetic condition. It has not got enough staff and doctors and there is no ambulance service. The staff quarters are not occupied by the ESI staff. Lights and fans in the hospital wards are missing too, the statement added.
