HYDERABAD:
Two cars were completely burnt and one more partially burnt when fire broke out in a garage near Government Hospital for Chest Diseases in Erragadda after Tuesday midnight.
Reasons behind the fire accident are not yet known but the Sanjeeva Reddy Nagar police suspect that short circuit might have ignited the oil boxes in the garage.
The flames were noticed by the owner of the garage land, Habeeb Khan, around 1 a.m. in the night.
He alerted the police and fire control rooms.
Two fire tenders were pressed into service.
Firemen of Sanathnagar and Punjagutta fire stations had to toil for over 90 minutes to douse the blaze.
Mr. Khan leased out the open space beside his house in Maqbara locality to a car mechanic Feroz who built a room there and was using it as garage.
As usual, the mechanic closed down the garage around 9 p.m. and left for his house.
"There were three vehicles. While Tavera and Tata Indica vehicles were of 2005 model, the partially burnt Maruti Esteem was an old one," S.R. Nagar Sub-Inspector S. Venkat Reddy said.
