Staff Reporter

Congress wins 675 ZPTC as against 446 in 2001

  • TDP wins 347 against 512 seats in 2001
  • SEC calls for location-specific details of polling booths in the State.

HYDERABAD: The Congress ended up with a tally of 675 Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituencies (ZPTC) in the present elections as against 446 in 2001, while the Telugu Desam Party fell from 512 seats in 2001 to 347 now. Secretary of State Election Commissioner (SEC) G.N. Rao released the final tally with the political party-wise break-up of ZPTCs. Both the left parties significantly improved their tally with the CPI going up from eight seats in 2001 to 15 now and the CPI (M) bagging 27 seats now against 15 in 2001.

The share of the TRS fell from 84 in 2001 to 25 now, the BJP fell from 13 to two seats now and the Bahujan Samaj Party, which bagged three seats in 2001 failed to open its account. Thirteen independents sailed through in 2001, while only five could make it this time. Meanwhile, SEC is getting ready with preparations for holding elections for Sarpanches, Upa-sarpanches and members of Gram Panchayats. Mr. Rao said on Wednesday that they had called for location-specific details of where polling booths would be set up from every Gram Panchayat in the State. In the process of notifying the dates for the elections, the SEC would hold detailed discussions on videoconference mode with all District Collectors.
