Letters to the Editor
Does Zinedine Zidane deserve to be placed alongside Pele and Maradona? Certainly not not even if France wins the World Cup for a second time. Pele and Maradona were geniuses. They were extraordinary footballers, who could win matches on their own. Zidane is of course a great player but he can at best be compared with Michel Platini, Franz Beckenbauer, Enzo Francescoli, Lothar Matthaus, Frank Rijkaard, Zico or Rivelino. Even the great Alfredo Di Stefano was never compared with Pele and Maradona.
Karan Khanna,
* * * The turnaround in the World Cup football has been remarkable. The teams that were considered the best have been shown the door, but new teams and teams of middle-aged players have emerged as serious contenders.
