NEW DELHI: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Thursday asked the Government come out with a comprehensive report in Parliament on the espionage and security breaches and the exact nature of security collaboration with the United States. The CPI (M) Polit Bureau said reports of arrest of some persons in the National Security Council secretariat on charges of doing espionage work for the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) was "an extremely serious matter." In a statement, it said the investigations that led to the arrest of a computer analyst and the head of the National Information Security Coordination Cell pointed to the operation of a spy ring linked to a U.S. diplomat. The party pointed out the case of a senior Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) officer, who worked as a CIA agent in 2004 and later took shelter in the U.S. The UPA Government must face up to the fact that the "strategic partnership" with the U.S. was facilitating strategic spying. Ever since the BJP-led Government began security and intelligence collaboration with the U.S., the doors have been opened for systematic subversion of the security and intelligence agencies of India. There was an urgent need to review the joint forums and collaboration ventures such as the Indo-U.S. Cyber Security Forum. The party saw a "serious breach of security and subversion of the intelligence agencies."
