Special Correspondent

Bangalore: Sri Beerendra Keshava Tarakanandapuri Swamiji, 73, of Sri Kaginele Kanaka Gurupeetha, passed away at the math's branch at Banashankari here on Thursday.

The math has a large following among members of the Kuruba caste.

The swamiji was the first head of the math, which traces its origins to the saint musician Kanakadasa, at Kaginele in Haveri district.

Sri Beerendra Keshava became head of the math in February 1992. He hailed from Nanjangud in Mysore district and held a master's degree in philosophy.

He was the author of the book "Philosophy of Life." He also brought out the journal "Kanaka Spoorthi."
