Detergent, phenyl, jams and jellies

CHENNAI: The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), functioning under the aegis of the Government of India, will conduct training programmes on detergent powder and phenyl making between July 24 and 28 and jam, jelly, squash and pickle making between August 1 and 5.

Applicants should send Rs. 200 per course, through Money Order or Demand Draft drawn in favour of `KVIC, Palmgur Scheme Account', to the Principal, Khadi and Village Industries Commission, MMC Post, Chennai-51.

The first 10 candidates will be given free accommodation. More details are available at (044) 2555 5402. Participants can avail of financial assistance under the Rural Employment Generation Programme of KVIC through banks with 25 to 30 per cent subsidy upon completion of training.

Dance school to hold fundraiser

Radhika Shurajit, who runs the `Thrayee' School of Bharatanatyam, will stage a dance performance on classical film songs of `Kaviarasar' Kannadasan at Vani Mahal at 6.30 p.m. on Sunday. The programme will be a fundraiser for the Tamilnadu Kidney Research Foundation (TANKER Foundation), which provides financial assistance for transplantation, medication and investigation costs for the needy suffering from kidney failure.

Teachers' orientation camp

The Vivekananda Educational Trust, Mannady will be organising a teacher's orientation programme at the S. Badalchand Sugankaur Chordia Vivekananda Vidyalaya, Mudichur from Thursday.

The Kids Indoor Play Field will be dedicated to the children at the beginning of the programme.

The valedictory is scheduled for 3.30 p.m. on Saturday.

Chathurmasya Sankalpam

The 15th Sankalpa Mahotsavam of the 45th Jeeyar of the Ahobila Mutt is scheduled to commence on Tuesday in the mutt premises near Kumbakonam and will conclude on September 7.

The 111th Thirunakshatra Mahotsavam of the 44th Jeeyar will be celebrated on August 27 and the eighth month `Sathabisekha' Thirunakshathra of the present Jeeyar on July 14.

Pranic healing awareness campaign

A pranic healing awareness campaign is being organised by the Anna Nagar Pranic Healing Home, a unit of the Puthigai Krishnamurthy Trust, on Sunday at the Marina Beach between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Handicrafts expo by Hina Collections

An all-India Handloom and Handicrafts expo organised by Hina Collections at the C.P. Arts Centre Main Hall, 1, Eldams Road, will be held till Monday. All kinds of handlooms including household linen and clothing for men, women and children will be on display.

Handicrafts including jewellery, wooden furniture, carpets and jute products will be available.
