CHENNAI : The delay in opening two bill collection centres in Avadi municipality has led to inconvenience for residents who complain about spending long hours travelling to pay their property tax. The two bill collection centres, at Thirumullaivoyal and Chatram Government High School in Pattabiram, were constructed a year ago. Residents said that the bill collection was computerised about two years ago. The Avadi municipality has about 45,000 tax assesses, of which 25,000 are from Pattabiram. R. Vimala, a resident of Avadi, said that earlier the municipality followed the door-to door bill collection method. With the computerisation and delay in inaugurating the centres, the residents of Avadi and Pattabiram have to spend half a day travelling and waiting in queue to pay the property tax at the municipality office. Residents also complained that the working hours of the collection centres, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., did not suit the office-goers. Responding to the residents' complaints, the Avadi municipal commissioner, Mohan said that the new centres would start functioning in a month's time.
