Campaign against bank manager condemned

Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The All India Bank Officers' Confederation State president P.B. Thomas has condemned the campaign being carried out against the manager of the Karamana branch of Union Bank of India, Chockalingam, by a group of persons claiming to belong to the Kerala Samsthana Vyapari Vyavasayi Samithi over the granting of loans.

He said in a statement here on Thursday that the persons barged into the bank and insulted and threatened the manager on Tuesday. They held a dharna in front of the branch on Thursday. The AIBOC leader said the branch was in the forefront of granting loans to all sections of the people. However, it was natural not to consider the applications of defaulters of loans taken from other banks, those who did not run any business establishment, or those who did not fulfil the norms for sanctioning loans. He urged the authorities to provide adequate security to the bank branches and their staff.
