Minister calls for energy conservation campaign at school-level

PATHANAMTHITTA: Transport Minister Mathew T. Thomas has stressed the need to propagate the message of energy conservation at different levels in an effort to meet the crisis facing the sector.

The Minister was inaugurating the Energy Conservation meet organised by the Energy Conservation Society (ECS) at the Dr. Alexander Mar Thoma auditorium, in Thiruvalla on Friday.

Mr. Thomas said that an energy conservation culture should be developed right from the school-level and organisations like the ECS could do a great deal in making the common man aware of the grave need for saving energy in an age of crisis.

The Kerala State Road Transport Corporation has already initiated certain measures to save fuel, spread the message that every drop of diesel saved means extra revenue for the corporation, he said.

Mar Thoma Metropolitan Philipose Mar Chrysostum delivered the keynote address.

Mar Chrysostum also stressed on the need to spread awareness among school children. ECS district secretary T.A.N. Bhatathiripad presided over the meeting.

The Pampa Parirakshna Samiti general secretary, N.K. Sukumaran Nair, Dr. M.S. Leelamma, Loyal Joy, Jisha Mathew, SCS Higher Secondary School principal V.M. Mathai and ECS State vice-president George Mathew spoke.
