LISBON: Luiz Felipe Scolari will resign as Portugal coach on Tuesday, according to Friday's edition of the sports daily Record. The newspaper, which quotes no sources, says that the 57-year-old Brazilian will meet Portuguese Football Federation president Gilberto Madail to explain why he's quitting. The federation refused to confirm or deny the report. "If there is anything to say about that, it will be said through our website or through our president," said federation press officer Bruno Henriques. Portugal plays Germany on Saturday in the World Cup third-place playoff after losing to France in the semifinals on Wednesday. Scolari, who won the World Cup as a coach of Brazil in 2002, helpedtook Portugal to the final of the 2004 European Championship. AP
