CHENNAI: The World Wide Fund for Nature - India (WWF-I) is organising a nature camp at Binsar in Uttranchal Himalayas for anybody who is interested in nature. The camp, which will be conducted in September, will enable participants to experience the grandeur, beauty and richness, and appreciate the conservation value of this region through nature trails, bird-watching excursions, enjoyable slide shows on nature and wildlife besides other adventure activities, says Preston Ahimaz of WWF. Binsar is a small sanctuary, situated in the thickly forested, mountainous terrain, which offers good scope for invigorating treks. The forest is mainly pine at the lower levels and oak and rhododendron occupy the slopes at higher altitudes. Mr. Preston said animals such as leopard, ghoral (goat-antelope), barking deer, black bear, monkeys, red fox, pine marten and porcupine are found in the region. There are over 200 species of birds, including tits, forktails, nuthatches, blackbirds, parakeets, laughing thrushes, magpies, eagles, woodpeckers and scores of others. Like any vibrant forest, Binsar is also home to many reptiles and innumerable invertebrates, including butterflies. Applications are invited now.For more information, contact Preston Ahimaz at 9444751404 in Chennai or e-mail him at prestonahimaz@ gmail.com
