ONUS ON SPEED: PWD officials briefing Chief Minister N. Rangasamy about the construction of the new court complex on Friday.
PONDICHERRY: The construction work for the first phase of the new court complex near Venketasubba Reddiar statue would be completed by next month. An assurance to this effect was given to the Chief Minister N. Rangasamy, when he inspected the works on Friday, the PWD officials told The Hindu . The PWD had earlier planned to complete the work by the end of August. However, the Chief Minister during his inspection gave directions to complete the work before August 15. The first phase taken up at a cost of Rs 9.18 crore would house the Civil Court block. It would have one principal court hall and nine other court halls. The block would also have a separate chamber and entrance for the judges. In the second phase, the criminal court block and a centre for legal aid would be constructed. The work for this would begin immediately after the first phase is opened. The Government has sanctioned an amount of Rs 19 crore for the new court complex.
