PONDICHERRY: The State unit of the CPM will launch an agitation against the territorial administration over handling of admissions to private colleges. A statement from the party said on July 14th, the party cadres will stage demonstrations in different places in Pondicherry and Karaikal regions. The party wanted the Government to take immediate steps to secure 70 per cent seats as government quota in private engineering and medical colleges. Though the administration got an assurance from the private management that they would surrender 80 per cent of seats to the local students while non-objection certificates were issued, it is not being followed, the statement said. The party urged the administration to start the Government medical college this academic year itself.
