ALAPPUZHA: A high level meeting involving Cooperation Minister and Ambalappuzha MLA G. Sudhakaran, Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac, Health Minister P.K. Sreemathi and top officials would be held on the T.D. Medical College campus, Vandanum, in the district on July 27. The meeting would try to draft an action plan for expediting the shifting of the hospital from Alappuzha town to the campus, Mr. Sudhakaran said. At a meeting of medical college authorities, PWD officials and District Collector at the Vandanam campus on Friday, Mr. Sudhakaran asked the medical college authorities to form a coordination committee to expedite the shifting.
Construction of buildings
He said the Alappuzha District Collector should be the chairman of the committee and the medical college principal its convener. The Alappuzha municipal chairman, people's representatives, RDO and the District Medical Officer should be included in the committee, said Mr. Sudhakaran. He said the construction of buildings for the hospital at Vandanum campus should be completed immediately. "The fund allotted by the Government for the construction of buildings should be utilised," the Minister said. Those who participated in the meeting included District Collector K.R. Muraleedharan, Medical College Principal G. Satyan, Medical College Hospital Superintendent Mohan P. Sam and PWD Executive Engineer Yakub Sait. Earlier, inaugurating a function organised at Cherthala to disburse pension arrears to coir workers, Mr. Sudhakaran said the Government would take steps to clear arrears in a time bound manner. "Government would disburse one more instalment of arrears during Onam if the financial position was favourable," he said. He said the Government would not buy coir products from those manufactures who were not paying minimum wages to workers. The manufacturer should get reasonable profit and the workers should get realistic wages, opined Mr. Sudhakaran. He said action would be taken against those manufacturers who failed to implement labour laws.
