S. Ramesh passes away

Bangalore: Congress leader and former Minister S. Ramesh died of a heart attack here on Friday. He was 53 and leaves his wife, Hemalatha, a son and a daughter.

Family sources told The Hindu that Mr. Ramesh complained of uneasiness after waking up in the morning and collapsed.

Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly N. Dharam Singh was one of the first to arrive to offer condolences. The others who paid their homage included Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president M. Mallikarjun Kharge.

A product of the Youth Congress, of which he served as president for a while, Mr. Ramesh was known for his work among slum dwellers.

He was elected to the Legislative Assembly for one term from Uttarahalli in Bangalore and was a Minister in the Bangarappa government.

Mr. Ramesh later entered Kannada film production and was a past president of the Karnataka Film Chamber.
