BANGALORE: As Congress members continued their dharna for the second day in the Legislative Assembly on Friday insisting on a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor (BMIC) project, Deputy Speaker N.Y. Gopalakrishna adjourned the House for the day. It will meet again on Monday. As the House assembled in the morning, the Congress resumed the dharna launched on Thursday. Leader of the Opposition N. Dharam Singh led the members into the well of the House.
Prakash rejects demand
Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs M.P. Prakash rejected the demand noting that Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy had announced in the House that the Government would order a judicial inquiry into the project. There was pandemonium with the Congress members shouting slogans from the well of the House. Speaker Krishna first adjourned the House for 30 minutes. He invited leaders from both sides of the House for talks to end the impasse. But the talks failed to make headway. As soon as the House reassembled at 1.15 p.m., the Congress members resumed the dharna. Members of the Janata Dal (United), Communist Party of India (Marxist) and Republic Party of India also supported the Congress stand.
Walkout
Vatal Nagaraj (Kannada Chaluvali) staged a walkout demanding a CBI inquiry and the introduction of a Bill to reclaim excess land from Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprise, promoters of the project, and return it to farmers. At this stage, the Deputy Speaker adjourned the House for the day.
