Staff Reporter

Puttaparti: Satya Saibaba performed `bhoomi pooja' for the construction of an indoor stadium here on Friday. The stadium would be constructed with Olympic (international) standards at an estimated cost of Rs. 3 crores.

The stadium would have a main sports complex and a commemorative building. New facilities are being constructed to mark the silver jubilee of Satya Sai educational institutions next year. The sports and games facilities would come up in an area of about 4.6 acres.

The stadium would house multi-gymnasium, sports hall, eight-lane sprint track, squash, tennis, badminton, basketball, table tennis and volleyball courts - besides other facilities.

Saibaba offered `navaratnas' in a pit dug to mark the occasion.

Chittoor MP and TDP leader D. K. Adikeshavalu Naidu, secretary of Sri Satya Sai Central Trust S. Chakravarthy, trust member Bangalore Srinivasan and others also participated.

Later in the day, devotees from Maharashtra and Goa celebrated `Ashada Ekadashi' with traditional gaiety.
