HYDERABAD: The ECET (FDH) counselling for admission of polytechnic students to minority engineering colleges began here on Friday. The admissions are being conducted by a group of minority colleges for the 750-odd seats in 23 minority colleges. Zafar Javeed, general secretary of the Federation of Andhra Pradesh Minority Educational Institutions, told a press conference that there was good response from the students to the arrangements on the lines of EAMCET counselling, which were made with total transparency. He said admission to engineering courses would also be held soon and followed by admission to MBA and MCA colleges. He maintained that norms given in G.O. Nos 54, 59 and 61 were being followed.
Two centres
He said that there were 6,500 seats in minority engineering colleges in this group, while 37 institutions had agreed to join the group for MBA and MCA admissions and the group had 4,800 seats for these courses. He said the federation was considering opening two counselling centres - one each in Andhra and Rayalaseema areas - for the benefit of minority candidates there during the engineering admissions. Regarding the unfilled seats, he said they would be transferred back to the respective colleges and they would advertise and fill them according to the permitted norms. Mohd. Jaffer, treasurer, and Md. Ghouse Moinuddin, member, were present.
