`Fill Tumkur municipal commissioner's post'

Staff Correspondent

TUMKUR: Members of the Tumkur City Municipal Council (CMC) criticised the Department of Revenue for continuing to meddle with the CMC administration, at its general body meeting on Friday.

Led by Siddalinge Gowda, member and former chairman of the Tumkur Urban Development Athority, and Ramesh Achar, member, most of the members raised an objection for keeping the post of CMC Commissioner vacant for nearly two years.

They said though Ramachandra and Zahiruddin were posted by the Government, they were not allowed to work.

The Department of Revenue, they alleged, had sabotaged the functioning of the CMC by giving additional charge of the post to an official from the department.

G.S. Naik, Revenue Assistant Commissioner, who holds additional charge as CMC Commissioner, had to face the wrath of the members.

He was accused of working in isolation. The members said, "Letters from the Government are not placed before the CMC. Important decisions regarding the CMC affairs are taken at the office of the Revenue Department. Elected members come to know about them only through the media.''

The members described the official's actions as deliberate and said all such decisions were taken and implemented in hurry a few days before the meeting. One such decision was taken on Thursday though the official knew that the CMC was meeting on Friday.

A commissioner should be posted to the Tumkur City Municipal Council at the earliest, they said and demanded that the Government put an end to the interference by the Revenue Department in the civic body's affairs.
