Disciplinary action mooted

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Government employees who have been redeployed to local self-government institutions will have to face disciplinary action if they fail to report for duty. An official release issued here on Friday said that the Government had decided to withhold the salary of the employees who continued in their parent department ignoring the Government order redeploying them to the LSGIs. The decision was made at a meeting of Ministers and officials convened by Local Administration Minister Paloli Mohammed Kutty. — Special Correspondent

Selected for Haj

KOZHIKODE: A total of 1,558 were selected through a draw of lots for the Haj pilgrimage this year. They would join 4,019 others who were selected openly considering their age and also their failure to make it through the draw of lots last year. Local Administration Minister Paloli Mohammed Kutty inaugurated the draw of lots at the State Haj Committee office at Puthiyara in the city on Friday. The Committee resorted to draw of lots as the State could send only 5,577 persons for the pilgrimage this year and there were 14,649 applicants. Haj Committee chairman A.K. New CGEWCC chairman

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Abraham Pothen, Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Thiruvananthapuram, has taken over as the chairman of the Central Government Employees' Welfare Co-ordination Committee (CGEWCC). — Staff Reporter

Call to support agitation

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State secretariat of the CPI(M) has urged all sections of people to cooperate with the countrywide agitation being organised from July 13 to 19 to exert pressure on the Centre to take stringent measures to check price rise. In a press note issued here on Friday the secretariat called for strengthening the public distribution system and more steps to check hoarding.

`Ensure reservation in TDB'

KOLLAM: P. Ramabhadran, State president of the Kerala Dalit Federation, has called upon the Government and the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) to safeguard the order through which limited reservation has been allocated to the scheduled communities in appointments to the TDB. In a statement here on Friday, Mr. Ramabhadran said that it was because the case was not properly argued in the High Court, a stay against the order was obtained. Hence, in order to argue the case, the Government should either entrust it to the Advocate General or appoint a lawyer committed to social justice, he said. — Staff Reporter

Awareness class

KOLLAM: The Civil Services examination awareness class organised by the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan will be held at the district panchayat conference hall on Saturday and Sunday. As many as 100 persons will given admission to the class. Kollam MP P. Rajendran will inaugurate the class. The session will begin with a talk by District Collector B. Srinivas. — Staff Reporter
