Arrangements on for gram panchayat polls

    KADAPA: The district administration is making arrangements for gram panchayat elections to be held in three phases in Kadapa district, Collector M.T. Krishna Babu said on Friday.

    Arrangements had been made for electing Zilla Parishad chairperson and vice-chairman and mandal parishad presidents, he told State Election Commissioner A.V.S. Reddy in a video conference. Adequate staff and ballot boxes were available for the panchayat elections, Mr. Krishna Babu said and sought grant of funds for conduct of the polls. RDOs had been instructed to appoint required polling personnel, he said.

    Sensitive and trouble-prone villages have been identified in coordination with Superintendent of Police Y. Nagi Reddy and preventive measures were being taken. Adequate bandobust would be organised, he said.

    Chittoor Correspondent writes: District Collector S.S. Rawath has asked MROs, MPDOs and Returning Officers (ROs) to ensure proper conduct of elections to co-opted members, president and vice-presidents of mandal parishads.

    ZP chief poll

    At a meeting here on Friday, Mr. Rawath said that election to Zilla Parishad chairman would be held at the ZP meeting hall on July 10 and MPP presidents at mandal parishad offices on July 11. Whip of the parties should reach the RO concerned a day before the polling. Nominations of co-opted members would be received between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m., scrutiny would be done from 11 a.m. to 12 noon. A meeting would be conducted at 1 p.m. to elect co-opted members. ZP CEO Veerabhadraiah and Joint Collector Rajendra Prasad were present.
