KHAMMAM: It is going to be a draw of lots to decide the candidate for the office of Chairperson of Khammam Zilla Parishad. In the event of a tie, drawing of lots in the presence of all the members was the only option, said the officials here. The candidate whose name is drawn first will be declared as duly elected. Both the CPI(M) - TDP combine and the Congress backed by the CPI and TRS are on equal footing with a strength of 22 members each. Leaders on both sides are in touch with the State committee of the CPI(ML) New Democracy as the votes of two members won by the party are crucial. On its part, the New Democracy has ruled out the possibility of extending support to either of the sides. But the party has initiated a debate on the issue at all levels within the organisation, said a senior leader. "There is still sufficient time to take a decision," he added. With barely two days to go before convening special meeting for election of the chairperson and vice chairperson of the Zilla Parishad, the Congress Party finds itself short of time. Besides, the district party leaders and legislators are out to clinch a deal with the CPI (ML) New Democracy. Another source of worry for the Congress-I is the stand of the TRS State leadership. The support of the lone TRS member. . The TRS member has already shifted to the Congress -I camp. Meanwhile, the CPI(M) has made an open appeal to the New Democracy for its support. Teldarpalli village on the outskirts of Khammam has been the main centre of political activity for the party. In all 21 ZPTC members both of the CPI(M) and TDP have been herded here where the CPI(M) is in total control. The CPI(M) ZPTC members were attending training classes, while the TDP members are enjoying a holiday.
