MYSORE: Director of Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI), V. Prakash on Friday said that there was a tremendous scope for entrepreneurship in food technology, especially at a time when the industry was poised for a big growth.

Dr. Prakash was speaking here during the presentation of awards, medals, scholarships and certificates to students of M.Sc. (Food Technology) and International School of Milling Technology Certificate courses at the institute.

He said investments in food technology have been growing steadily and that could contribute for the increased growth of GDP from the targeted nine per cent to 12 per cent. Such a figure, he said, could be accomplished by synergising the benefits of information technology, biotechnology and food technology.

Presented

Speaking after presenting the awards, certificates and medals, the Principal Secretary, Department of Information Technology, Biotechnology and Science and Technology, Anup K. Pujari, said students should work hard for their success and not strive for instant fame and success. He said, "Sometimes we are careless when we seek instant fame and success."

In order to be first, he said, one should not make mistakes. Success has no short cuts. Referring to the change in the attitude of westerners towards Indians, he said, "20 years ago they would see an Indian as a potential taxi driver from the land of snake charmers even if it was not the case. Today, they mistake an Indian for a software engineer even if he is not one."
