`Mudra Dharana' conducted at Sri Krishna Math

Staff Correspondent

Udupi: The "Tapta Mudra Dharana" ritual was conducted at the Sri Krishna Math here on Friday. Sri Vidyasagara Tirtha Swamiji of Sri Krishnapur Math stamped the figures of "shanka" and "chakra" on the forehead, chest and arms of devotees.

Earlier, the seals of "shanka" and "chakra" were heated in a "Sudarshana Homa" conducted at the math.

The seals were embossed after devotees had their bath. Women and children too participated.

Earlier in the day, Sri Vidyasagara Tirtha embossed the seals on himself and the junior seer of Sode Math, Sri Vishwavallabha Tirtha Swamiji.

Chaturmasya

The "Tapta Mudra Dharana" is held on the "Prathama Ekadasi" or "Sayani Ekadasi".

The next four fortnights are the period of "Chaturmasya".

During the "Chaturmasya", the seers or swamijis stay at one place for two months (or four fortnights).
