MANGALORE: The Panambur police arrested seven persons on charges of dacoity and extortion. A release from B. Dayananda, Superintendent of Police, here on Friday stated that the accused had robbed Sudhir Nayak and his fiancee of cash on Tannirbhavi beach. A complaint in this connection was registered at the Panambur police station on July 3. Likewise, a gang of six youth in the age group of 20-25 allegedly robbed Nischal and Kenneth at Tannirbhavi beach near the New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) guesthouse on June 17. The group threatened the duo and forcibly took a gold chain weighing 30 grams, a mobile handset and Rs. 500 from Nischal. Panambur police had registered a case of dacoity in this connection. Those arrested are Abdul Rahiman alias Rauf (21), Umar Farooq alias Farooq (21), Abdul Kabir (19), Basheer alias Ammi (22), Muhammad Imtiaz alias Immi (20), Muneer alias Munna (20) and Gafoor alias Chakke Gafoor (48), all residents of Kasba Bengre. Police recovered two knives, three gold chains and two mobile phones. Noting that the accused may have robbed others at Tannirbhavi in the same manner in the past, Mr. Dayananda urged people who had information of such incidents to contact Panambur Circle Inspector T. Kodandaram, the investigating officer, in person or over phone numbers 0824-2220528, 94484-29106 or the district police control room on 0824-2220500.
