Appellate authority stays retirement of CCI workers

Staff Reporter

ADILABAD: The Appellate Authority on Industrial Finance and Reconstruction (AAIFR) has stayed the operation of notices given to employees and workers of the closed unit of Cement Corporation of India (CCI) at Adilabad for accepting voluntary separation scheme (VSS) on offer. These notices were served some time ago following a decision of the Board for Industrial and Financial Reconstruction (BIFR) to close six CCI unit across the country, including the one at Adilabad.

CCI employees' union general secretary S. Vilas and trade union leaders told reporters here on Friday that the AAIFR had asked the CCI management to maintain status quo until a special appeal against the BIFR decsion was heard by it on August 3. Different trade unions had made appeals to the AAIFR which had passed stay order on July 3.

Notices were given to the employees and workers to accept the VSS within 90 days or face retrenchment.

Mr. Vilas pointed out that the CCI management had shown undue haste in taking decisions about the CCI work force. A consultant appointed by the BIFR to look into the viability of CCI Adilabad unit's revival had suggested that the unit could be revived upon upgradation of its out put capacity, he said.
