Coimbatore: The prosecution completed its arguments in respect of the motive in the Coimbatore Serial Blasts case before the Special Court for bomb blast cases<149>here on Friday. The serial blasts that ripped Coimbatore on February 14, 1998, left 58 dead and 250 injured. Property worth Rs. 17 crore was damaged. The Special Investigation Team of the CB-CID and the city police arrested 166 persons who are facing trial.<149> The Special Public Prosecutorthe , Raja Elango said he along with the Public Prosecutor in the blasts case, T.A. Selvaraj, placed their argumentsbefore the court<149> in respect of the motive and origin of the banned outfit Al-Umma. He said his arguments were on the basis of documents seized during the arrest of Al-Umma leader Syed Ahmed Basha soon after the R.S.S. office bomb blast in Chennai. The arguments also related to the<149>criminal antecedentsof <149>the outfit leader<149>, he said<149>. He also accused the outfit of making attempts to unleash terror and fear psychosis to ensure that none opposed group. The outfit primarily worked on unleashing threats against the Government and Hindu forces. Two application forms of Al-Umma seized by the prosecuting agency pertained to two of the undertrials in the case,,<149> he added. Besides, he quoted letters reportedly written by Basha calling upon people who were willing to lay down their lives, to fight as human bombs against forces that were<149> opposed to their faith. The murder of Kottai Amir who tried to foster peace andamity in 1993, and the murder of traffic constable R. Selvaraj in 1998 who was a<149> symbol of law enforcing authority and Government, <149>were clear indications that Al-Umma believed in violence, he . Defence counsel P. Thirumalairajan and M.H. Abdur Rahman told reporters that they had drawn the judge's attention towards the issue of<149> to permitting mediapersons to cover the arguments. Counsel said the Special Court Judge, K. Uthirapathy had pointed out that he had already written to the High Court and was waiting forclearance/<149>concurrence <149>for<149> ting<149> allow media <149>persons. DD<149>efence counsel are also planning to move a petition both before the trial court and High Court seeking permissionfor the media to cover the arguments<149>. TheSpecial Court<149> J<149>udge posted the prosecution arguments in respect of conspiracy to July 12.
