Telecom meet from Monday

CHENNAI: The Department of Telecom is hosting an international conference starting on Monday on Asia Pacific telecommunications and ICT Development Forum, which is being organised by the Asia Pacific Telecommunity, Bangkok.

The event being conducted by BSNL, Chennai Telephones, will be inaugurated by Nripendra Misra, TRAI Chairman.

The Asia Pacific Telecommunity (APT) is an inter-governmental regional telecommunications organisation that was set up in 1979 by the United Nations with the objective of promoting the development of telecom and ICT services in the Asia -pacific region, with particular emphasis on developing countries.

The meet is expected to be attended by participants from 33 member countries who will come from different sector of the telecom and ICT industry.

It will provide a platform to identify the specific issues that hinder the development of telecom networks in rural areas.
