Staff Reporter

They had fled when stopped at Foreshore Estate last week

CHENNAI: The Chennai Metropolitan Traffic police traced 11 youth, who abandoned their vehicles and escaped when police stopped them at Foreshore Estate last week.

Sunil Kumar, Joint Commissioner of Police, Traffic, said the youth, who were riding two-wheelers, were on their way home from East Coast Road. When police stopped them near Foreshore Estate, they abandoned their vehicles and fled. The police seized their vehicles and checked whether they were stolen. The addresses of the owners were traced to north Chennai.

Police informed the parents of the youth and cautioned them to ensure that their children did not violate traffic rules.

Police also imposed a fine of Rs. 1,100 on each of them. After warning they were let off.

Mr. Sunil Kumar said the police would continue their drive against traffic rule violators and those halting beyond the stop line. Severe action would be initiated against them, he cautioned.

He also appealed to the two-wheeler riders to wear helmets.
