B-school to set up research centre

Staff Reporter

It aims to use Kotler's expertise

CHENNAI : The city-based business school, Great Lakes Institute of Management, proposes to set up a centre for research in marketing. The centre will have the renowned marketing strategist Philip Kotler and Seenu Srinivasan of Stanford University contribute to the financial resources of the institute.

It aims to use Dr. Kotler's expertise and Dr. Srinivasan's skill in `creating marketing,' Bala V. Balachandran, institute founder told a press conference on Friday. This follows the institute's decision to sell itself as a marketing-focused institution.

Dr. Balachandran, a specialist from the Kellogg School of Management, said: "Given our natural core competencies we have decided to focus on marketing." The institute's research found that a lot of businesses of Indian origin dominated the world but in a world changed by globalisation and technological advancements, the country needed to find ways to market itself.

To address this need, Great Lakes has sponsored Dr. Kotler's visit to India. He will commence a four-day whirlwind tour of the country on (July 17) Monday.

His first stop is Chennai where he will meet with students and corporate heads. The 75-year-old expert will visit Bangalore and Mumbai also, where he will meet heads of business empires.

Dr. Kotler will address people from banking and insurance at Mumbai, information technology specialists in Bangalore and will hold a seminar `Marketing Mantras' for corporate employees and Great Lakes students in Chennai. For registration contact: 99401-75794 (Chennai); 99805-65764 (Bangalore); or log on to www.glakes.org.
