RTC staff told to fight against privatisation

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: V. L. Dhar, deputy general secretary of All-India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), asked APSRTC employees to be on constant vigil and see to it that the Damocles' sword of privatisation does not fall on them.

Inaugurating the 22nd State convention of the CPI-affiliated APSRTC Employees Union here on Friday, he said though the Governments have claimed they would not go for privatisation, they continue to go for contract system and outsourcing functions. Being a Government undertaking, State road transport undertakings were expected to have a social responsibility and not always have a commercial motive. So, it was fair for Governments to underwrite costs incurred by SRTUs in discharge of their social responsibilities, he said.
