Plea for farm development fund

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: National Commission on Farmers (NCF) member Atul Kumar Anjaan has asked the UPA Government to constitute a national agriculture development fund for alleviating the problems faced by the farming sector.

Mr. Anjaan, who is the general secretary of the All India Kisan Sabha, said that the Government could utilise US $ 20 billion from its foreign exchange reserves of over US $ 160 billion to create the fund. He wanted immediate steps to provide credit to farmers through nationalised and cooperative banks at 4 per cent interest as suggested by the NCF.
