Writ petition challenging land allotment adjourned

Legal Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The writ petition filed challenging the action of the State Government in allotting prime land at Hyderabad to civil servants, journalists and High Court judges has been adjourned to Tuesday.

The bench comprising Justice Chalameshwar and Justice Appa Rao perused the lengthy affidavit running to 25 pages filed by trade union activist V.S. Bose and environmental activists Rao Cherikani and M. Debara. The petitioners alleged that land was being acquired from poor farmers and given to big companies and the Government had claimed that no land is available for the house sites to be given to poorer sections in the society.

They said that the Government, which was a public trustee, was not entitled to dispose of its property, which is not in the interest of public at large. Minute details regarding the allotment of land, in and around Ranga Reddy district and acquisition of lands were submitted to the court. The bench too felt that this needed serious consideration and directed the Government to respond by Tuesday.
