BANGALORE: Home Minister M.P. Prakash on Friday handed over to the Bangalore police 286 vehicles sanctioned under the police modernisation scheme. This included 251 motorcycles for inspectors, 30 jeeps for station house officers, and five vehicles for the dog squad. Speaking at the function got up on the occasion, Mr. Prakash said he would clear all pending proposals related to improvement of the city police. He would also look into the issue of giving service benefits to constables, Mr. Prakash said. The Minister said the transfer of Bellary Superintendent of Police Prashant Kumar Thakur was done in the routine course. There was no political motive involved in it, he said. Brushing aside the charges made by Bellary district BJP president Janardhana Reddy against him and his son, Mr. Prakash offered to resign as Minister if their names figured in any inquiry conducted on the charges. Mr. Janardhana Reddy, who was recently elected to the Legislative Council, on Thursday alleged that Rs. 150 crore had been collected from mine owners indulging in illegal mining in Bellary district by Minister for Forests C. Chennigappa to be handed over to the Chief Minister.
