BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Friday framed contempt charges against the president of Karnataka State Judicial Employees' House Building Cooperative Society and three other office-bearers. A Division Bench comprising Justice Rammohan Reddy and Justice H. Billappa was hearing a contempt petition filed against the society by some residents of Judicial Layout, Bangalore, seeking initiation of proceedings for violating an earlier court order. The petitioners said in June 2003, the High Court directed the society against changing the nature of a civic amenity site in Judicial Layout. The society, they alleged, had violated this order by attempting to sell the civic amenity site. The office-bearers of the society maintained that there was no wilful violation of the High Court order and when the order was communicated to the society, it had refrained from going against the order. Apart from Mr. Shivalingaiah, who was a former District Judge, the court framed contempt charges against association vice-president Rudraiah, treasurer Kemp Thimmaiah and one of the directors Basavaraiah. The Bench adjourned further hearing to August 7.
