MYSORE: The Mysore Grahakara Parishat (MGP) has organised a public debate on the controversial Makkaji Chowka on Monday. A release from Bhamy V. Shenoy of MGP said that several former mayors and corporators would take part in the public debate, which would elicit views from a cross- section of the society. The School Of Design of the University of Mysore would present a few designs prepared for the development of Makkaji Chowka, it added. According to Mr. Shenoy, the public debate would make efforts to discuss some specific pertaining Makkaji Chowka. They include: why did the Mysore City Corporation agree for a three-storied shopping complex; how such a big decision was moved through the corridors of MCC and the Vidhana Soudha?; did the corporators consider the economics of this proposal? is constructing a shopping mall the best choice for Makkaji Chowka? has any one studied the impact of a shopping mall of this size on the vehicular traffic? what impact will it have on the heritage sites close to it? The public debate has been organised at The Institution of Engineers at 6 p.m.
