Vairamangalam residents demand bridge across Bhavani river

ERODE: Residents, especially students and farmers, of Vairamangalam are in distress, as there is no bridge across the Bhavani river to reach Thalawaipet village, situated on other side of the river.

Bus services

There is no Government High School or Higher Secondary School in Vairamangalam. So the students have to go to Thalawaipet.

Bus services are available to Thalawaipet from Vairamangalam, but it would take 45 minutes, 25 kilometres, to reach there.

So most of the schoolchildren are using the ferry service. One-way ferry charge is Rs. two and when there is heavy flow in the river it will be increased to Rs. three. But during heavy rain and floods students have to depend on bus services to reach schools. The villagers said that if a bridge constructed across the Bhavani river, connecting the two villages, it would be useful for people of both villages and also to the farmers for transporting sugarcane to Appakudal.

When asked the Highway Department said that at present there was no such plan to construct a bridge connecting the two places.
