Chikungunya: BMP to buy more fogging machines
Staff Reporter
Bangalore:
The Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) will invite short-term tenders on Monday as the civic body plans to buy 70 more fogging machines to combat chikungunya, according to Deputy Commissioner Manu Baligar.
Apart from taking up fogging operations in slums, low-lying areas and places prone to waterlogging, the BMP had initiated an awareness campaign. Pamphlets were being distributed and announcements made on radio. The BMP was also conducting free health check-up camps.
"We have conducted six camps already. Thirty more will be held," Mr. Baligar said.
On Saturday, the BMP, in association with an NGO, conducted an awareness camp on chikungunya at Wilson Garden.
More than 1,000 residents were examined. "We are taking blood samples of people who have come to us with fever. Those with joint pain and other illnesses are being given free medicines," said a doctor at the camp.
A magic show by Nagendra Prasad helped people to learn more about chikungunya and the steps to be taken to prevent the disease.
