dated July 10, 1956: Washbrook clarifies

C. Washbrook, the 41-year-old Lancashire captain and member of the England Test Selection Committee, a surprise choice among the 12 players named on July 8 for the third Test against Australia, said in Manchester, "I am coming back to Test cricket at the unanimous wish of my fellow selectors. I left the room while the other selectors discussed the position insofar as I was concerned and returned only when they had reached a decision to include me in the 12 for the third Test. When I take the field I shall cease to be a selector and be just another player under Peter May's command."
