Rajahmundry: Challaboina Venu, elected as Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituency member from Malikipuram in Konaseema area is going to be new Zilla Parishad chairperson of East Godavari district. His name has been strongly recommended by district Ministers Jakkampudi Ramamohana Rao and Gollapalli Surya Rao to the Pradesh Congress Committee to take final decision.
Second candidate?
Unless a miracle takes place in last minute, the PCC may then consider the candidature of Nalukurthi Venkateswarlu, elected from Pedapudi as ZPTC, who reportedly has the backing of Union Minister of State for Defence M. M. Pallamraju. Otherwise, it will be a cakewalk for Venu. According to sources close to Mr. Ramamohana Rao, Venu's name was finalised on Sunday afternoon, when the two Ministers impressed upon Pradesh Congress Committee president K. Keshava Rao and also Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy. It was also learnt Venu had the backing of a prominent financier.
Whip power
Meanwhile, the Congress party has decided to give power to issue a whip to Mamidala Suribabu, senior ZPTC of Congress. He will issue whip on Monday to newly elected Congress ZPTCs.
