Enforce discipline in EPDCL It is high time discipline is enforced in the offices of Eastern Power Distribution Company Ltd. (EPDCL) situated in Vidyut Sakha building opposite Hotel Green Park in Visakhapatnam. Habitual late attendance, absence from seats during working hours, chit chatting, availing of lunch time more than half-an-hour are regular features in the offices of EPDCL. All the seats are found vacant between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., but the lights and fans are continuously switched on for hours together though none is available in the seats. Much electricity is being wasted due to this negligence. It is an offence under Section 139 under Electricity Act 2003 with a penalty of Rs. 10,000. The air-conditioned room of the Superintending Engineer is also misused in his absence. The heads of offices or deputies may be instructed to go on rounds in the building for surprise checks to restore discipline that is lacking at present. R. Butchibabu, Visakhapatnam Display train timings The railway authorities at Visakhapatnam should take up the opening of computer reservation centres in Visakhapatnam One Town area and in HB Colony besides improving facilities at Visakhapatnam railway station and MVP Colony counter. It is surprising that the train timings are not displayed on any of the platforms at Visakhapatnam station. Will the East Coast Railway divisional headquarters initiate action to improve the passenger amenities at Visakhapatnam? A.S. Ratnam, Cheepurupalli Check dog menace Visakhapatnam being an industrial city, people here attend work during night shifts. While going on two-wheelers, one finds street dogs attacking people during night near Sri Kanya Theatre of New Colony. At least a group of ten dogs are seen on the prowl. The Greater Visakha Municipal Corporation (GVMC) should take steps to control dog menace. G.G.K. Rao, Visakhapatnam Sanitation can help prevent fevers This has reference to reports on the measures taken up by GVMC to improve sanitation in the city to control fevers. Proper sanitation can control breeding of mosquitoes, which in turn can prevent fevers. This should be done all through the year. In this context, I appeal to the officials concerned to implement sanitation measures strictly by penalising the offenders. Also, women workers sweep the roads and stack the garbage so collected on the roadside for further disposal. But the male members engaged for desiltation of drains and collection of garbage do not discharge their duties properly. Further aggravating the problems, the dumper dustbins are kept in the busy residential localities in front of apartment complexes, as was the case between Anugraha and Madhuri Palace buildings in Lawson's Bay Colony in front of Shanti Ashram. The GVMC should ensure proper sanitation to prevent diseases. A. Girijasankar, Visakhapatnam College's diamond jubilee The College of Engineering in Kakinada is celebrating its diamond jubilee on July 15 and 16 on the occasion of Padmavibhushan K.L. Rao's birth anniversary. Since it is the premier engineering institute in the south started in 1946, it had produced many eminent engineers like Air Marshal Krishna, Major-Gen Visweswara Rao, Rear Admiral Damodaran, Chairman and Managing Director of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant Y. Siva Sagar Rao, Municipal Commissioner of Visakhapatnam N. Srikant, to name a few. We wish the celebrations a grand success. V. Sriharidas, Visakhapatnam
