SALEM: A woman and her seven-year-old son were killed in a road accident near Edaipadi on Saturday. Police said Dhanalakshmi (27) of Irupali village and her son Boopathi were returning home in a motorcycle when a van hit their vehicle from behind, killing them on the spot. A case has been registered.
Fair price shops raided
Officials of Directorate of Vigilance and Anti Corruption raided fair price shops in Yercaud following complaints from the public. Sources in the DVAC claimed that the complaints ranging from bogus bills to excess stock were received by the authorities from the general public. Following which, raids were organised.
Kerosene seized
As many as 140 litres of kerosene meant for supply to Public Distribution System (PDS) cardholders were seized in Erode on Saturday. According to officials, during a surprise check, the Dharapuram Flying Squad seized 105 litres of kerosene concealed at a house in Moolanure. A case was registered against the house owner Ramasamy. Similarly, officials also seized 35 litres of kerosene from Gopal at Moolanure.
Injured
A two-wheeler rider sustained injuries on Saturday when he was hit by a police vehicle in Erode. According to the police, a police van on the Kangeyam Main Road, hit the two-wheeler while it stopped at a traffic signal in Moolapalayam. The rider Selvam sustained injuries, and was admitted to a hospital nearby. The vehicle was also damaged.
