SALEM: The battered Subramaniyam Street, located in Sevvapet in the heart of the city, has put thousands of residents into hardship and needs immediate restoration.

The street, connecting a number of thickly populated residential colonies in the city, is full of potholes and remains in a state of neglect for long. Residents in the area say that the Corporation is responsible for the pathetic condition of the street, as it has not taken up maintenance works for the last several months.

Two-wheeler riders have to take extra caution while riding on the pothole-filled street especially during night hours.

Though the residents have repeatedly complained to the Corporation officials about the condition of the street, nothing has been done to restore it. "They have not even bothered to take up patchworks on the street. The civic officials are not responding to our pleas properly," the residents complain.

When asked, the Corporation officials said that the street would be re-laid shortly.
