Vizag retains men's title

VISAKHAPATNAM: Host Visakhapatnam retained the men's team title in the State powerlifting championships at the Swarna Bharati Indoor Stadium on Sunday. Hyderabad finished second.

Ch. Sheshu Babu of Visakhapatnam rewrote three records on his way to winning the 67.5 kg gold. K. Stephen bettered the 75 kg squat record while Guntur's B. Prasad improved on his own 82.5 kg bench press record.

The results:

67.5 kg: 1. Ch. Sheshu Babu (VSP), 2. G. Shyam Prasad (Prakasam), 3. J. Chandrasekhar (Hyd). 75 kg: 1. K. Stephen (Hyd), 2. V. Ajay Kumar (VSP), 3. Srisailam Yadav (RR). 82.5 kg: 1. B. Prasad (GNT), 2. P. Gopalakrishna (RR), 3. A. Srinivas (Nalgonda). 90 kg: 1. C. Naveen Kumar (RR), 2. P.N. Nooka Appa Rao (VSP), 3. Ranjan Thapa (VSP). 100 kg: 1. S. Koteswara Rao (VSP), 2. L. Gandhi (Khammam). 110 kg: 1. M.Y. Srinivasa Rao (Prakasam), 2. O. Lurdiah (Krishna). 125 kg: 1. E.V.V.S. Siva Kumar (VSP), 2. M. Laxmi Srinivas (PKM). 125 kg plus: T. Ramakrishna (VSP).
