PONDICHERRY: Elections to fill certain posts in the newly formed civic bodies would be held on July 14. The indirect elections would be held for electing the vice chairman for municipalities, chairman and vice chairman for commune panchayats and vice president of grama panchayats, the District Collector and Election Officer G. Theva Neethi Dhas told reporters on Sunday. For the vice-chairmen's post in four municipalities in the Union Territory, 122 elected councillors would cast their votes. As for the election of chairman and vice-chairman in five commune panchayats in Pondicherry, 98 councillors would cast two votes each, he said. The indirect polls to elect the vice presidents in grama panchyats would be held in the respective villages. There were 71 grama panchayats in Pondicherry and 27 in Kariakal region. The election process would start at 9.30 a.m. and the results would be announced late in the day. He said returning officers had already been appointed for conducting the elections.
