BHOPAL: A Visthapan Virodhi Vikas Manch (anti-displacement development front) would now be formed to combat the menace of forcible eviction on the pretext of development across the country. This was announced here over the weekend on the conclusion of a two-day meeting of the National Alliance of People's Movement in the State capital. The Manch against displacement of people in both urban and rural areas would be formed on October 3. This would coincide with the World Habitat Day. Addressing media-persons at the end of the 2-day convention, the Narmada Bachao Andolan leader, Medha Patkar, who was flanked by other prominent members of the National Alliance, said that a nation-wide people's movement would be launched to oppose forcible displacement whether it be for the construction of big dams or setting up special economic zones. She said that a Desh Bachao Andolan on the same lines as Narmada Bachao Andolan was on the anvil. Ms. Patkar said they were determined to work across the country for the protection of farmers' land rights
