Two die of fever

NALGONDA: Two women— Kotra Chandrakala, 38 and Kakunuri Bakkamma, 55— reportedly died of high fever and joint pains at Neredugommu village in Chandampet mandal in Nalgonda district on Sunday. They reportedly showed symptoms of chikungunya for one week. Chandrakala's husband Yadaiah told reporters that she recovered after a bout of fever and again fell ill a couple of days ago. Medical Officer Mahendra Kumar said that the duo died of dehydration and low blood pressure. About 200 villagers had been suffering from high fever and joint pains, the main symptoms of chikungunya, for the last ten days but no medical personnel visited them, villagers said. — Staff Reporter.

RTC union plans

hunger strikes

Hyderabad: Staff and Workers' Federation (SWF) of the AP State Road Transport Corporation announced lunch-hour demonstrations on July 15 and relay hunger strikes on July 19, 20 as part of a phased agitation against the reported move to privatise the body. M.N. Reddy, president, and R. Lakshmaiah, general secretary, at a press conference here on Sunday regretted that Government was going ahead with `privatisation' in the name of "reforms and restructuring" after promising several times not to privatise the corporation.

Couple dies

in accident

Sangareddy: A young couple lost their lives in an accident involving the motorcycle they were riding and an autorickshaw near Alladurg cross roads here on Sunday. According to SI Saida Naik, Hanmanth Goud (32) and his wife Kalpana (26), residents of Hyderabad, were returning from Kalpana's parents' house in Koroor when the accident occurred. Both sustained severe head injuries. While Hanmanth died in Sangareddy Government Hospital Kalpana breathed her last at Jogipet. — Staff Reporter

Ex-MLAs' plea

HYDERABAD: The AP Formers Legislators' Forum has appealed to the South Central Railway authorities for a share in the emergency quota reservations for ex-MLAs/MLCs in the absence of applications by MPs and MLAs. In a representation to the SCR general manager, K.Subba Raju, general secretary, complained that applications of former legislators were rejected recently in some divisional railways offices. — Special Correspondent

Srisailam water level up

KURNOOL: The water level in the Srisailam reservoir reached 844.20 ft on Sunday while the inflow into the reservoir was around 1,93,780 cusecs.

The capacity of the reservoir touched 105.2044 tmcft. — Staff Reporter

Pirated CDs seized

ELURU: Two video parlours on Ramachandraraopet road here were raided and one person arrested on charge of selling pirated and porn CDs.

Pirated versions of films such as "Hanumanthu", "Bangaram", "Godavari", "Pandemkodi" were seized apart from 118 CDs with pornographic films.

The shop owner Dhatla Satyanarayana Raju was arrested, SP M. Jaganmohan Reddy said. — Staff Reporter

Students taken ill

Tirupati: Ten more students of Tribal Welfare School in Srikalahasti were hospitalised after they complained of stomach-ache on Sunday. On Saturday, 102 students of the school were treated for food poisoning.

The students had developed nausea and dysentery on Saturday, after they reportedly consumed `sundal' in the hostel.

The Director, Tribal Welfare, Ramakrishnaiah, arrived here on Sunday to enquire into the episode and gathered preliminary facts from the officials concerned.

Test for short-listed

candidates

Sangaredy: The five-km preliminary running test for the 3,596 short-listed candidates who applied for posts of Civil and AR police constables in Medak district would be held on August 21 and 22 on the outskirts of Kandi, near Sangareddy. The applicants would be divided into batches of 250 each and would be asked to run on the way towards the Ordinance factory. According to a press release here today 221 applicants were found ineligible due to different reasons. — Staff Reporter

Collector's advice to

returning officers

Sangareddy: Medak District Collector B. Venkatesam in a press release here on Sunday has advised the returning officers to strictly adhere to the guidelines during the election of co-option member, president and vice- president at mandal-level on Tuesday. They were told to receive nominations from 10 a.m., announcement of the list by 12 noon and oath taking by members at 1p.m., followed by election of the co-opted member. Elections for the mandal president and vice-president would be held at 3 p.m. — Staff Reporter

Chikungunya medicine to be distributed

ADILABAD: Students in all schools run by the Utnoor Integrated Tribal Development Agency would be given free homeo medicine for Chikungunya on Monday. The medicine consists of two small sugary pills, which can be taken half hour before or after meals.

Project Officer Saurabh Gaur said the medicine was brought from Hyderabad to be given to the students in order to prevent the occurrence of Chikununya. — Staff Reporter

Office-bearers elected

ADILABAD: Ichoda Mandal Revenue Officer G. Shiva Kumar was unanimously elected president of Adilabad district unit of the Andhra Pradesh Revenue Services Association while Administrative Officer of Utnoor RDO office Eashwardas was elected associate president on Sunday. Prabhakar Swamy of Adilabad collectorate was elected general secretary and Sudhakar Reddy from Nirmal, Kailasham from Mancherial and Prabhalata of Adilabad collectorate were elected vice presidents. Rajan Babu from Asifabad, Vilas from Adilabad and T. Rajanna were elected joint secretaries, Candrashekhar, RI, Laxmanchanda was elected organising secretary and Rajeshwar Reddy, Adilabad RDO office, was elected treasurer. — Staff Reporter
